National Nutrition Month: Celebrating connection through food
March 27, 2025
March is National Nutrition Month. This annual education campaign from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is an opportunity to learn more about healthy food and how to develop mindful eating habits. This year, the theme is celebrating how “Food Connects Us.”
Food can represent celebrations and good times with loved ones, as well as connection to family history and culture. We can also look forward to enjoying peak-quality foods when they are in season. Our relationship to food is truly rich and complex, and goes beyond just sustenance.
One way to explore different types of food is through our Healthy Plates. Each plate represents a balanced combination of protein, starches and vegetables. You can try the different combinations listed, or plug in your favorite items from each category to create a delicious, nourishing meal.
“If you are looking to make changes to what you eat, remember to start small, and set goals that you are able to achieve,” said Stephanie Graziano, a registered dietician at the Institute for Family Health. “Making progress will help encourage you and sustain your changes in the long run. You can also work with your provider to make a plan to build healthier habits.”
If you are struggling with food access, or find it difficult to afford fresh, healthy meals, let your provider or another staff member know. We can help you apply for benefits or other programs that can help you access healthy food.
