Institute’s Immigrant Health Initiative featured at 2024 Advocacy in Medicine Conference

The Institute’s Immigrant Health Initiative led by Guedy Arniella, LMSW, director of community heath and outreach, was featured on a panel at the 2024 Advocacy in Medicine Conference. The panel took place on November 18, 2024 at the New York Academy of Medicine and focused on addressing global and immigrant health needs.

Immigrant Health project coordinator Kristina Davila joined colleagues in a discussion about immigrant health advocacy across different fields, including health care, social work and civil society. Topics covered included advocacy with elected officials, caring for uninsured populations, and efforts toward passing legislation that would expand health insurance to all. Panelists also drew from personal experience, sharing how they each came to the work of immigrant health advocacy.

The Institute’s Immigrant Health Initiative connects immigrant New Yorkers from all over the world to high-quality, compassionate health care. Program staff also help individuals and families navigate the health care system and apply for insurance and other resources if eligible. Services are available to all, including asylum-seekers, people with temporary or permanent residency status, people who are permanently residing under color of law (PRUCOL), and others.
