Dr. Eric Gayle is the Institute’s president for health care services and chief medical officer. Through these roles, he provides leadership and vision for all Institute clinical services, including medical care, throughout our network. Dr. Gayle joined the Institute as a resident in 1996; he then took a position as a family physician at an Institute health center in the Bronx. He was soon promoted to a medical director position and then to Bronx regional medical director before being named chief medical officer in 2021.

Over the course of his career at the Institute, Dr. Gayle has championed quality improvement efforts such as incorporating regular depression screening into primary care practice and the integration of care coordinators into clinical teams to enhance overall care and outcomes for patients. He served as chair of the Institute’s credentialing committee from 2009 to 2023, assuring high standards for the Institute’s professional appointment processes. In 2015, he was honored with the Dr. Jack Geiger Award from the Community Health Care Association of New York State, in recognition of his career-long commitment to improving access to health care in low-income communities. Throughout his career, Dr. Gayle has remained committed to practicing family medicine; he currently sees patients at the Institute’s Stevenson Family Health Center in the Bronx. Dr. Gayle is a graduate of the City University of New York and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
